Good Christian, Bad Christian; Good Person, Bad Person

Good Christian, Bad Christian

I’ve heard these two off-hand but lethal judgments all of my life. These terms never made any sense because “being” a Christian wasn’t about being good and bad…it was about being bad or forgiven – there was absolutely no room for “good”…that was bad.

I submit that the entire mindset of ‘good Christian; bad Christian’ ignores the Gospel.

Consider: If a newcomer to Christ has a remaining plethora of vices is he a “bad Christian” from the moment he accepts Christ forgiveness?

Or is there a grace period from which one may freely traverse from the moment of forgiveness of becoming a Christian to when they will be held responsible for being a good or bad Christian? How long would you propose this period to be?

Perhaps we should approach this perplexity from the opposite side, asking then - what is a “good Christian”?

The term ‘good Christian’ is the absolute supreme oxymoron. If you were a “good Christian”, you wouldn’t need Christ…only Christians need Christ – but they know they are bad.

The problem isn’t over defining “Bad” but in assuming definitions of “Good” to be a personal possession or achievement. Without Christ, there can be NO good and without Christ there are no Christians. Christianity is only 'in Christ'...and requires the believer to put themselves to death daily. This doesn't sound like a good/bad scale.

On the other side of the planet, what is the secular concept of Good Person, Bad Person? Read the secular media – it changes daily, seasonally and yearly. What was good ten years ago may be bad today; what was bad 20 years ago may be good today; Flip-Flops and donut shops.

In God’s world, where the Truth remains eternally the same; Christians have secured Life based on His definitions - not theirs and not those of the world.

Oh, and one other thingie – why did I begin by saying these judgments are “lethal” – well, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Matt 7:1-2 NIV

Some think this verse is a tool to determine legislation upon others – once again…now they are judging and the warning is that their constructed instrument will be turned on them.

Verdict: JN 8:31-46

Efficiently Defective Products

Efficient = Purposely Defective Engineering

When did the term ‘”efficient” come to mean failure to work or even failure to work well? The word efficient used to be 100% synonymous with a flawlessly successful operation; usually of an appliance, motor, vehicle or tool. Now when the hardware or appliance clerk tells me the model I am looking at is the most efficient – I immediately and instinctively ask, “Can you point out the inefficient one?”

Efficient air conditioners means the air is on but you still are sweating bullets. Efficient furnace means the heat is on but you are still chilled to the bone. Efficient toilet means you have to flush 3 times instead of once. Efficient refrigerator means your ice cream is now dripping soft serve. Efficient light bulb means you now need 3 lamps turned on to find your glasses. Efficient water heater means cool showers. Efficient washing machine means dirty clothes.

The new redefinition of the word ‘efficient’ can be expanded to the absurd; an efficient book would be only half the pages but totally unreadable in 2 point type. “But I can’t read it! (small type)” you’d argue – but only to the unapologetic retort of activists announcing “But it is efficient! (less natural resources)”.

So then I must ask the obvious logic - WHERE is the efficiency if it fails at its PRIMARY task? I grew up understanding the term “efficiency” in the full context of the phrase, “German efficiency”. It meant that an item was probably ugly, unsightly, barren or, at best, unique or interesting – but, by damn – it worked exactly as one would expect it to work; heater heated, air conditioners cooled and toilets flushed so perfectly – you took it 100% for granted and never looked back. Efficiency meant “Function over Form”…and it meant it to the nth degree.

It has come to the point where I would proudly leave any store with a large box bearing bright red lettering spelling out the horror of “100% Inefficient”! I guarantee that all men over 45 passing by would nod, smiling in understanding approval – knowing that I have obviously purchased one of the few “working models”. Somehow in a complete definition overturn, inefficient means the item works successfully as to its designed task. What kind of a poop-side-down world is this?

When I tell a typical activist this opinion – they respond with instantly harsh condemnation that I don’t NEED it that [fill in the blank]! You know the words to fill in here – I don’t need it that: hot; cold; fast; bright; big; good; etc. Of course, they have agreed with my point by saying so - noting that the product doesn't perform the work it was intended to do – it just does it “good enough”; a level of service and operation that was designed by comittee to an arbitrarily determined point…voted on by the legal bodies.

So there we have it: efficient means: works good enough; to a level of performance determined by the State or Federal legislative bodies, lawyers, lobbyists and activists. Engineers, and more importantly, CONSUMERS...need not be present.

An overview in the redefinition of the word organic; now used prolifically in market produce booths and modern grocery aisles right alongside other items previously known as “organic” for thousands of years…until recent legal and politically motivated redefinitions stripped them of their title – what shall we call the old organics?

Respond now with your new definition and bio-engineering reasoning/rationale for 'non-organic organics'!

Populists and Satan

Coming to Grips with Populism
_______________________________________________________
The Evils of Evangelical Populism
01.10.2008

After IOWA – I briefly entertained the horrifying concept that America had finally crossed the terrible boundary and traversed into the dark forest threshold of populism (i.e. mob rule) by clearly gaveling the selections of Huckabee and Obama. In my lifetime we had only sideswiped that reality briefly with the scare of Ross Perot in the presidential election of 1992…or if you live in Minnesota – Wellstone entering politiks in 1991 and later Jesse ‘The Body’ entering the ropes of the ring forcefully as “The Gov” in 1998. As a native Minnesotan I became well aware of populism and its folly. Can one blame the messenger, that we – expect a particular thing from them? Is not “populism” more a definition of the crowd – than the effort of the messenger?

Populism is exactly like the emotionally agitated and expectant populist crowds that clamored around in full support of Jesus upon his well publicized triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the Passover Eve. It might has well have been a political convention because that is what it was – for the crowd; for they were welcoming a political King.

Populists have a rigidly self-defined expectation of what product they are voting for along with an absolute definition of how it should be played out. In other words, they are “fickle” voters – not even worthy of the label “supporter”. They have an amazing capability of assigning their personal wants or desires upon the mantle of any candidate who is even meagerly capable of expressing elementary rhetoric promising impossibilities.

This was the story around Jesus. He was promising an overthrow of the earthly kingdom and to the people listening on the street that meant breaking the yoke of Rome – they had a direct expectation and image of what was to transpire. When what they expected to happen didn’t happen – they scattered and fled…because populist support (an oxymoron) fails when populists do not get exactly what they expect, exactly when they expect it.

Here in Minnesota, Jesse the Body was elected to get his license tab fees reduced and a shutdown of the emission testing centers. Luckily – that resonated with many of the populists who voted for Jesse just because he was an entertainer (see: the religion of celebritism). As prediction would have it – once Jesse succeeded in delivering on those two promises…he left unchallenged in office by climbing into his cheaply licensed Lincoln Navigator and disappeared in a puff of unregistered emissions.

Jesus, on the other hand, was whipped and beaten “into submission” his supporting populists assumed – because he offered nothing in attack. Finally, handed from his own people over to the Romans – he offered even less for defense. The final blow comes when they proclaim to Pilate, “We have no King but Caesar”…which is the final sealing denial of Jesus fate as they proclaim a Gentile King over their Messiah. Of course they did…because they didn’t want to be left holding the bag as partisans who supported an overthrow of Rome.

In THAT story, neither the populists, nor the Jewish leaders, nor the evil gentile Roman Kingdom under Caesar – were blamed…no person or party was blamed because it was His life to freely give. Satan never saw the right upper cut coming; “None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” 1 Corinthians 2:8-16.

The earthly kingdom WAS defeated as Jesus promised as He took the keys from Satan who had held the kingdom of earth since Adam turned it over the keys to him for his birthright. As you know – this is the “Good News” which Satan continues to fight from an underdog position – a position which many of Adam’s descendants support.

Amazing. Devout followers must ask how or why they are following political saviors.

Are you of Apollos? (note how so very CLOSELY IN CONTEXT this question follows the verse above).
